The first Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet ‘Family Sunday' of 2009 took place on Sunday 7th June, with hundreds of visitors braving the rainy weather to enjoy the environmentally themed day.
The event featured interactive performances by Sheffield based Point Blank Theatre Company, with costumed performers congregating in the Orchard and Courtyard at Abbeydale Hamlet to entertain children, parents and grandparents alike.
Helen Gabbitas, Projects Officer at Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust said,
"The historical significance of Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet is considerable and it's really important that our events have activities and performances that bring elements of this back to life.
"Point Blank Theatre Company recreated practices that once took place here on the site and the children seemed to really enjoy making objects, including the ‘swamp monsters' that they could take home."
Entrance to Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet and all activities on site are now free of charge for the entire season. The site opens Monday to Thursday, 10 am - 4 pm and on Sunday 11 am - 4.45 pm.
