New look Museum and Market attracts over 11,000 visitors
Our 18th Victorian Christmas Market brought in record attendances attracting over 11,000 visitors as our biggest and most prestigious event.
This two day event featured over 80 stalls set in our new look Museum and ambient market quarters including - ‘Sheffield, Made' Traditional Skills, Crafts and Gifts, Christmas Shop, ‘All that Glitters' Gifts and Jewellery and Festive Food and Family Entertainment.
Visitors walked admist the sights and smells of Victorian Sheffield as our Dickensian Living History characters relived the story of ‘A Christmas Carol' - with Scrooge and the Ghosts of Christmas' past, present and yet to come!
This year's highlights included a family entertainment programme including a Victorian style fairground with Gallopers and Helter Skelter and a flavour of family fun from yesteryear with a display of local photographs and posters from the National Fairground Archive.
Children's activities included skating on a synthetic ice pad provided by iceSheffield and rides on our miniature engine, the Kelham Flyer, alongside Punch and Judy and Storytelling Santa.
In the museum, our Little Mesters were at work along with craftspeople including Lacemakers, Spinners, Weavers and Dyers and a Blacksmith demonstrating traditional skills.
