Kelham Island Museum Melting Shop Play Area

Spring is coming which means Kelham Island Museum is pleased to once again offer FREE admission for everyone during the Sheffield School Spring Bank Holiday.

It's a great time to visit with new family attractions such as The Hawley Gallery with it's giant tools display, to firm favourites the Little Mesters Street and the mighty River Don Engine. See the engine powered up and running at 12pm and 2pm daily with an additional 4pm run on Sundays.

The Melting Shop Children's Play Area will be open throughout the holiday giving children the chance to follow the process of making steel in a fun, hands-on way. Kids will love being melted like iron in our swirling ball pool before being poured, rolled and hammered and then shaped into a finished product which could be anything from a steel fork to a submarine! Our interactives explaining the processes of steel production include giant 3D jigsaws of the Sheffield Simplex car and a locomotive that budding engineers can explore both inside and out!

Kelham Island Museum is open Monday - Thursday 10am - 4pm and Sunday 11am - 4.45pm (closed Friday and Saturday).

Don't miss our new Furnace Cafe now open!

River Don Engine

River Don Engine runs Mon - Thurs 12pm and 2pm and Sud 12pm, 2pm and 4pm
