Help us bring the Hamlet to life with dressing up , storytelling and living history performances where YOU join in the fun!

Families can find out more about the story of Benjamin Huntsman in an interactive storytelling session exploring how mechanics work and children can come up with ideas for their own mechanical toy as well as make a 'steel worker' puppet, to colour, construct and take away!

The Story of Ironie by Harry Brearley

Sunday 16 June 2013 | 12.30pm & 2.30pm| Normal admission applies

Ironie is a children's story written and illustrated by Harry Brearley, the inventor of stainless steel.

The original manuscript is held at Kelham Island in the Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust collection, a unique example of Brearley's desire to explain his scientific discovery to young people. This performance, developed by Emily Capstick, uses storytelling, theatre, music, multi-sensory props, magic and puppetry to create an exciting interactive family experience.

Abbeydale Dam Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet

This Spring Bank Holiday get outdoors at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet as part of Sheffield Environment Weeks.

Taking place between Sunday 26 and Thursday 30 May, there's free admission for all and families can enjoy free activities such as Nature Trails that encourage exploration of the hamlet's environment with fun prizes for all completed trails and Badge-making with exciting waterwheel, insects and plant designs!

Sheffield Environment Weeks at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet

Daily Waterwheel Walks at 1pm will give enthusiasts the opportunity to look at the course of water through Abbeydale and explain the restoration work happening as part of the £1 million Heritage Lottery Project to revive the Hamlet.

Don't miss out on our Spring Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday have-a-go drop-in fishing sessions taking place on Abbeydale Dam - sign up at the gazebo!
