Applications are now open for Build It 2017
Primary schools across South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire are invited to take part in an exciting challenge this June at the annual 'Build It' event at Kelham Island Museum in Sheffield.
Schools across the region are reminded to keep a look out for the invitation email this week.
Helen Gabbitas, Community and Learning Projects Manager at Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust, explains: “Build It is a great chance for primary school pupils to work together in teams and learn more about the construction industry. This event is action packed every day from start to finish, with pupils getting the chance to find out more about the issues that are associated with the construction industry. We have experts from some of South Yorkshire’s leading construction companies here on hand to help, giving young people guidance and advice, which is all important as they start to learn more about the world of work.”
Build It supports key aspects of the national curriculum for Science, Technology, Geography and English.
Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust offers learning programmes for all ages and abilities at all three historic sites: Kelham Island Museum, Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet and Shepherd Wheel. Build It is part of the Trust’s strategy to support the teaching of STEM subjects and to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.
