Sheffield’s Industrial Museums tell the story of a great industrial city from the past to the present. Known by many as Steel City, Sheffield is famous for its steel, cutlery and toolmaking history, the quality of its products and the skills of its workers.

From early water-powered grinding wheels to the giant steelworks of Sheffield’s east end the workers, the inventions, the wealth and the poverty – you can explore it all at Kelham Island Museum, Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet and Shepherd Wheel.

Phase One of the redisplay of the main gallery is now completed and the museum is open during Phase Two to enable visitors to see the work being undertaken.

There’s more for families to enjoy at Abbeydale this summer as we bring to life the unique story of Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet and life at home and at work in a scythe and steel works dating back to the 18th Century.
