Shepherd Wheel Workshop
Volunteering Opportunities at Shepherd Wheel Workshop
The Friends of the Porter Valley (FOPV) are a conservation group concerned with the area of parks, woodlands and farmland of the Porter Valley in the south-west of Sheffield.
Their purpose is to preserve and enhance the natural and historical characteristics of the Porter Valley between Hunters Bar and Porter Clough.
Working in liaison with Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust and Sheffield City Council, the Friends of Porter Valley support the management of the public areas of the valley which includes working to restore the dams and the Shepherd Wheel Restoration Project.
Are you interested in Sheffield's Industrial Heritage?
You don't need any specific qualification, although an engineering background or working with groups are useful skills. If you enjoy and are interested in meeting and talking to people about Shepherd Wheel and Sheffield's industrial history, and are enthusiastic about sharing knowledge and understanding of this unique site, then volunteering could be for you!
Volunteers are needed at Shepherd Wheel to help on Saturdays and Sundays to talk to visitors, help them understand the site, its history, its location and what it was like to work there.
