We’re building a volunteer team to help create a deliver our activity programme.
There are many ways to get involved, from training to be a visitor service volunteer to joining our conservation and ground maintenances activities or helping restore our Victorian Garden.
There are several ways of getting involved:
- Visitor Services Volunteers
This role is all about helping visitors get the most out of a visit to Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet: helping them find their way around, chatting to them and making them feel welcome, answering questions, telling them about the history and the stories of the site.
- Garden Project Volunteers
We want to bring the Victorian Garden here at Abbeydale back to life, in a way that makes it an integral part of everything we do: a lovely place for visitors to spend time, a friendly and interesting volunteer activity and somewhere that plays a part in our learning programmes.
- Hamlet Haberdashers
This is a textiles group run in partnership with the Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) via its “Forgotten Skills” programme. The Haberdashers meet on Monday mornings from 10am – 1pm to make quilts, rugs, dolls, cushions for the period houses and costumes to support the learning programme.
- Beauchief Environment Group
Beauchief Environment Group is one of our Community Partners. Members visit Abbeydale on the second Monday of each month to help us with conservation and grounds maintenance work. Volunteers from Autism Plus and Freeman College regularly join us for these sessions, and other interested volunteers are always welcome.
