Family Activities Volunteers

Enjoy helping and working with children and families? Interested in museums and heritage? In this role you will work with Learning Team staff to deliver half-day craft activities for children and their accompanying family members/carers to take part in. The sessions will take place every Tuesday at Kelham Island Museum and every Wednesday at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, during the Sheffield schools summer holidays (29th July - 30 August 2019).

This is a great opportunity to be part of a growing family engagement programme at Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust (SIMT).

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to at least three out of five sessions at Kelham Island Museum or Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet (or you can volunteer at both sites if you are available to).

Visitor Services

Welcoming visitors is an important role. Our visitor services volunteers’ opportunities are Monday to Thursday 10-1 and 1-4pm at Kellam Island Museum and Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet. There is further opportunity to volunteer at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet on Sundays.

Family Programme

Volunteers support families in a creative art workshop inspired by our collection. Kelham Tots is once a month drop-in. In addition, during the school holidays volunteers support is needed.

Gardening Project

The group meets for two hours once a week at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet where they manage the planting and up keep of the grounds and the Victorian Garden.

Volunteer Information

Volunteers have to opportunity to access training for their role and are invitatied to special events, tours and our social gatherings.
