Activity Sessions

Bring your visit alive using one of our costumed Freelance Educators.

Choose one of our themed sessions or mix and match the sessions for an inter-disciplinary approach.

The sessions can be booked for class groups and cover History, Science, Technology, Geography and English. Many of these sessions are closely linked to National Curriculum QCA units. They are aimed at Key Stages 1 or 2, but can be adapted to meet your needs. Sessions last 90 minutes approximately depending on the type of visit.

Price: £40.00* + £1.80 per person admin charge

*Price based on one class of up to 35 children. Full days are charged at £80 per class. Additional resource charges apply for some sessions.

Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet

Compare and contrast real Victorian houses. Accompanied by a costumed educator, visit the Manager's house and workers cottages of Abbeydale Works.

Creative Arts Day

Kelham Island Museum

A half or full day of art, music and drama. Children observe and handle a variety of tools and watch some of them being used, listening to the sounds they make. During the day they make a clay tile, compose a piece of music and create drama tableaux.

Its a Wrap!

Kelham Island Museum

Children use tools and items from the collections of SIMT and the Ken Hawley Tool Collection to find out about packaging in the past, and design and make their own package to protect tools from Ken Hawley's 'tool shop'.

How long is a piece of string?

A half or full day at the museum, involving children in a number of hands-on activities using real and reproduction tools from the Hawley Collection to investigate the concept of standardised measurement.
