Accessing the Collection
The majority of the collections are stored at Kelham Island Museum in the Collections Management Centre
which has new purpose built stores. These ensure that all the small and medium objects, books, photographs,
plans technical drawings and archives are stored properly and that environmental conditions can be controlled,
such as heat, light and humidity. The new stores were part of a refurbishment project funded by the Heritage
Lottery Fund and completed in April 2003.
The Collections Management Centre also offers a research area facility for people to have access to the
collections.
If you wish to have access to the collections, appointments can be made with the Registrar from Monday to
Thursday between 10.00am and 4.00pm. Please ring the main switchboard at Kelham Island Museum
on 0114 2722106 to enquire about making an appointment. This applies for all collections including those at
Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet and Shepherd Wheel. The Trust also has a public enquiry service for information
about the collections or the industrial history of Sheffield, which can be accessed by contacting Kelham Island
Museum.
