Located in one of the city's oldest industrial districts, Kelham Island Museum stands on a man-made island over 900 years old. The galleries and exhibitions explore life and work in Sheffield during the Industrial Revolution, through the Victorian Era and two world wars and show how steelmaking forged both the City and the world!

Working predominantly at Kelham Island Museum, the following posts are available following a restructure:

Visitor Services Team Leader

35 hours (Sun to Thurs) - £7.80 per hour (3 year contract)

• To supervise the day to day operation of the Museum and shop
• Ensuring the Museum is set up for schools and other activities
• Daily cash reconciliation
• Supervise the small team of Visitor Services Assistants
• To create rotas that ensure correct staff levels, covering daily and extraordinary (Museum events and corporate / social hire) Museum opening
• To be responsible for ensuring the provision of excellent customer service to all visitors, whether they are general public, education based, corporate hirers or guests of staff
• To ensure regular "sweeps" round the Museum (sites) are carried out, to ensure Visitor Services Assistants interact with visitors, and check operational issues in accordance with "sweep" schedules
• To maintain security of the Museum by ensuring that all doors are locked as appropriate and setting the alarms when the last person leaving the site

Events and Marketing Assistant

Initially 6 month contract with possibility of extending for a further 2 ½ years
17 ½ hours (over at least 3 days) - £7.50 per hour

•To work with the Events and Marketing Manager
•Maintaining the Museum's profile through listings, social media and its website
•To collect and analyse visitor feedback
•To assist in the organisation and administration of the Victorian Christmas Market, creating and mailing information packs. Taking some responsibility for an area of the operation of the event
•To work with the BSM and EMO in creating, promoting, and organising a balanced SIMT events programme across all sites
•To work with the BSM and EMO to ensure continued growth in visitor numbers for the core markets of general visitors, education groups, and corporate or social hire of facilities
•To work within the SIMT brand, and ensure adherence across all areas of the Museum in all promotional material and messages

Administration Assistant

35 hours (Mon to Fri) - £7.50 per hour (3 year contract)

•To complete the weekly banking
•To record visitor numbers and collect data for Performance Indicators
•To operate the computer booking system for school and group bookings, communicating all information to other staff
•To be the main telephone receptionist
•To liaise with Freelance Educators regarding bookings
•To liaise with Interpretation and Learning Officers (ILOs) regarding schedule for workshops and activities, for KIM and AIH / SW respectively
•To liaise with the BSM / VSTL to ensure appropriate staffing levels for AIH / SW during closed season.
•To be responsible for answering or redirecting all ask@simt emails
