Melissa Montague |Metal Artist

I am an artist and silversmith whose practice explores traditional silversmithing techniques such as hammer raising and forging. Predominantly working with silver, copper and brass, I create vessel forms which question the boundaries between function and sculpture.

Hammer marks and oxidization are used to create different surface textures and visual interest, often complementing the metal objects with contrasting material such as wood. The wood usually takes the form of a plinth or base, a conscious notion to encourage the user to have these objects on display. With my work I explore the relationship between people and to establish a lasting connection through function, scale and intrigue.

Offering: I am currently working for Studio Budgie Galore running a weekly jewellery making class where participants learn a whole range of techniques and gradually gain the confidence to apply this learning to their own ideas. Additionally, in collaboration with Jules from Studio Budgie Galore, I will be designing some more specialist 1 and 2 day workshops.

Demonstrating: Simple hammering techniques alongside Jules at Budgie Galore.

Samantha Groom | Printmaker

I am a Sheffield based printmaker working from my home studio. I create bold, bright, colourful and playful prints of trees, birds, flowers and houses, which are reminiscent of designs from the 60’s and 70’s in their style.

As well as printing onto paper, I also print onto fabric to produce items such as lampshades, tea towels, scarves, etc, and recycled cardboard and lazer cut plywood to make free standing printed artwork. I love all kinds of printmaking and I like to use a range of techniques, from wood, linocut and MDF-printing to silkscreen and stamp printing in my work. I often combine these methods to create one off pieces rather than produce editions.

Offering: Introduction to linocut printing workshop. Introduction to wood and linocut printing workshop. Introduction to screen printing workshop. Print and create your own lampshade workshop. Christmas card and wrapping paper workshop. Print your own lazer-cut plywood Christmas decorations workshop. Printmaking for Kids.
