All About Abbeydale
Experience Abbeydale as never before as our new gallery 'All About Abbeydale' reveals the story behind the works and the people who lived and worked here.
Abbeydale Works was once the largest water-powered industrial site on the River Sheaf. It has been a place of metal working for hundreds of years. From 1697 to 1933, scythes and other edge tools were made here. Almost all the processes were carried out on the site, from making steel to grinding blades.
All about Abbeydale is a new exhibition that gives an overview of the historic site. Follow the timeline’s flow and discover Abbeydale’s story, watch a short film, From Furnace to Field, that shows Abbeydale in action and explore the hands-on displays.
